A couple of closings. First, it was brought to my attention (thanks, Vinny) that Frankie & Joey's is gone. I liked them. You'd think that a pizza place right next to a movie theater would do well. Maybe the landlords were too greedy. Maybe the managers were fiscally sloppy. Maybe there was to much competition in this already pizza-saturated locale.
And, of course, Latin Cubanita, who's been gone for a while. But I walked past for the first time today and grabbed a pic. I think their Queens Center Mall location is still around though.
Ciao, Frankie & Joey. Adios, Latin Cubanita.
Figured as much when I tried to order a pizza this past Saturday. Ordered from Mazara on Metropolitan instead and it wasn't nearly as good. Not that F&J was all that great...but it was one of the better options for takeout.
ReplyDeleteAlso, tried the brunch at Aged this past weekend. Ugh. Every bit as mediocre as their dinner.
Me and my roommate tried this place a couple of times, figuring a pizzeria right next to a movie theater should be good. Blech lol, we hated it. We weren't surprised to see it go, we were more surprised that it lasted in the space as long as it did.
ReplyDeleteWhatever takes its place will bank on making money off the teens who'll go to the movies and who don't have too many local dining options. Pizza and chain food seem like no-brainers, but the space isn't large enough to support a Burger King style establishment. That severely limits what could go there.
ReplyDeleteFrankie and Joeys was subpar at best and I for one am glad to see another mediocre pizza place go! LONG LIVE Lillian Pizza! I have been there 5 times since reading this blog andf all i have to say is LONG LIVE TONY!
ReplyDeleteF&J was horrible, people would try it once and never go back!
ReplyDeleteLillian's is mediocre for NY. Maybe out of state in the boonies, it might be considered "good". Give Portofino's a try-I think there's are the best Neapolitan style pies in FH. I haven't tried the Family since the new owners, but I used to like their pies as well. As for Brick Oven, Nick's is only a last resort(Owner is the deterrent), and Dee's is preferred.
