Goodbye Q.
Courtesy of the Forest Hills Garden Blog, I am deeply saddened (and almost a little angry) to learn that Q will be closing. It had its detractors, but Q is (soon to be was) the best, classiest, most Manhattan-worthy restaurant on the Austin Street corridor. It was a little expensive, but not every restaurant in a neighborhood should be mid-priced and wallet-friendly. I've impressed many a date there and I will miss it. I hope that whatever replaces Q is worthy of doing so.
oh wow, we never ate there. hopefully something good will pop up
ReplyDeleteSad news. My wife and I ate there as recently as two weeks ago. They will be missed. The seating seemed a bit crowded but the food was fine.
ReplyDeleteYears ago before "Thai" was ubiquitous in FH, my family used to enjoy going there. I haven't been there in a few years. While I have good memories, it was expensive for its quality. It was also more of a "date" place than a family place...and I am far away from my dating years, now in my "family" place years....actually, sometimes almost back there again, with all my kids in college/grad school.
ReplyDeleteI was a much bigger fan in the early days of the restaurant ... great vibe and good food. With that said, it was alot of money for a little food. I literally would leave Q and head to the Chinese take out next door.
ReplyDeleteTried brunch there a few months ago and was very disappointed. Eggs were cold and service was non-existent (even though we were the only diners).
It's a wonderful location and I'm hopeful that something fabulous takes its place!
Sadly, I just heard that Wafa (off of Metropolitan) is also closing at the end of the year. When I last spoke with Wafa a few months ago she mentioned she was relocating to a larger location. Apparently that must have fallen through.
See, I've never been disappointed. Maybe I'm a low maintenance diner and it doesn't take much to satisfy me. While I may have raised my eyebrows a few times when the bill showed up, I've never regretted ordering anything at Q.
ReplyDeleteAs far as Wafa's I hope they don't close and that they do find a new space. Nothing's more annoying than wanting some falafel on a Friday or a Saturday and not being able to get it. And that isn't sarcasm.
I liked Q. Never liked the Twister board on the wall. But the food I thought was solid, even for the relative expense.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Susan. Too expensive for too little food. Too noisy, inside and out. I always felt sorry for the people who live in the apartment house across the street, having to put up with all the noise from the smokers hanging out on the street outside Q.
