Cheeburger Cheeburger & Johnny Rockets are, at least on paper, the same thing. Burger chains playing homage to the 1950s. Chrome, neon, rock-n-roll, doo-wop, Coca-Cola deification, pink Cadillacs and a commie around every corner. Our particular nook of Queens has both. So who wins? Which chain makes the better burger? Where should we go to spend our hard-earned money when the craving for bun-enclosed grilled beef hits us?

Those of you familiar with this series know that I eat at three burger joints per post, tirelessly searching for the best hamburgers NYC has to offer at the expense of both my cholesterol and clothes size. I've come across some real gems in sampling the independent burger joints of the city. This time though, I decided to try the chains.

BLT Steak makes the best burger, hands down.
ReplyDeleteAlso, the Nick's Bistro burger is pretty good too.
I'm a bit of a burger fanatic and my choice for best burger in the neighborhood is hands down, Dirty Pierre's (formerly Lucien's). Not only do I feel their burger and fries are good for the neighborhood -- but they can go head to head with many of the better burger joints in the city.
ReplyDeleteDirty Pierre's does make a good burger. And it certainly compares with the places in Manhattan I've been to. In a sense, it's too bad that they don't scrap their dive-bar bistro heme and become a specialty burger place, but they're probably making too much money doing what they're doing now.
ReplyDeleteNobody's burger anywhere in Queens compares to Dirty Pierre's. That being said when matching Dirty Pierre's against JG Melon's is like comparing Cheeburger to Dirty Pierre's, not even close. I like the whole scene at Dirty Pierre's, bikers and down home real people enjoying themselves. A lot more livelyand not depressing like the Irish Cottage.

ReplyDeleteI agree with peeps here on Dirty Pierres and Five Guys. I have to say, those Five Guys fries are terrific.
I went to Johnny Rockets once when I first moved to the neighborhood. Gross in pretty much every way except the good way.
