We had the goat biryani and saag paneer (sorry if my white man spelling is off) and both were super tasty, not bland at all. The only bad thing was I think there were some shredded mozz on top of the saag paneer, which was strange but I ate it anyway. They could have served it without any garnish. The food was quite tasty and complicated in its flavor and we had a good time, treated respectfully and enjoyed it very much. It was a bit pricey but the portions were very large.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8709919592958418784.post-2830480144732730712010-11-04T22:29:10.851-04:002010-11-04T22:29:10.851-04:00I've eaten at Maurya(Woodhaven Blvd and 63rd) ...I've eaten at Maurya(Woodhaven Blvd and 63rd) a few years ago and it was pretty decent, but I just saw a bad review on-line which is kind of deterring me from giving it a try. I found Baluchi's extremely over priced for its fare (Olive Garden-like is a great description!). I used to go down to little India on the LES many moons ago, and was nevwer disappointed. I can't see myself dealing with traffic to venture to Jackson Heights. I will give Sajni026 a shot though!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8709919592958418784.post-38306959297465214752010-10-14T13:19:20.490-04:002010-10-14T13:19:20.490-04:00I happen to like Baluchi's, yes very pricey fo...I happen to like Baluchi's, yes very pricey for such ok food but they had stuff that no other indian place i know had. The wait was very long and the host is very rude or just doesn't look happen to see us. and we are white people. but the food was good, not the greatest but below is the place that is the best...

The best Indian place is called SAJNI026
Even my Indian friends love that place. it's affordable and yes extremely spicy but they will accomdate to your taste.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8709919592958418784.post-91225918032750633292010-09-22T15:34:19.189-04:002010-09-22T15:34:19.189-04:00Stacey, you're my only friend. I thought it was tasty, if mild. My main problem is that, for the quality and portions, it cost you $130 for dinner for three. That just seems crazy to me, when the Indian place that delivered to my old workplace would cater a party of 12 for that much.Staceynoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8709919592958418784.post-28007957107662589532010-09-20T11:14:06.296-04:002010-09-20T11:14:06.296-04:00Baluchi's is a joke. Food is Average, Outdoor space is pretty cool.Wayno2424noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8709919592958418784.post-46081591550806042112010-09-19T21:02:58.937-04:002010-09-19T21:02:58.937-04:00Jon, I think you called it right in this review. T...Jon, I think you called it right in this review. The food is bland. There is a market for bland Indian food. Not my cup of tea. Went there twice in the last several years, and the food wasn't bad or good, really. It was just dull and not really worth the effort. So I'm in the Jackson Heights camp I guess. Or I drive out to Floral Park or New Hyde Park which has some surprisingly amazingly authentic very exciting Indian food, real flavor real spice. Good review, thank you for writing it, I enjoy your work.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8709919592958418784.post-73049007057705546672010-09-18T21:17:30.930-04:002010-09-18T21:17:30.930-04:00I knew I'd get flak for not thinking Baluchi&#...I knew I'd get flak for not thinking Baluchi's sucked. :(

Well, I've had some shitpot Indian food in my day, believe you me, and Baluchis far exceeded the depths to which it could have sunk. I liked it. I didn't love it. Nothing stood out as exceptional, but by the same token nothing made me gag. I went in with pretty low expectations and wound up being mostly pleasantly surprised... though they do rely on chick peas a wee bit too much.

Your Indian friends are on the money though. The same way that Olive Garden is Italian Food for the masses, Baluchis is Indian food for the masses. I bet they'd clean up in Iowa and Wisconsin.Jon Parkerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04728136630493588196noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8709919592958418784.post-90144875058886470142010-09-18T19:30:32.902-04:002010-09-18T19:30:32.902-04:00I am so disappointed that you liked Baluchi's!...I am so disappointed that you liked Baluchi's! My Indian friends refer to this as the "Indian Olive Garden" and this lily white girl has to agree. I've never had a decent meal there . . .but I do agree with you that FH desperately needs some good Indian options. Maybe if there were more competition you'd change your tune about Baluchi's.mbuffardihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04929801660904812814noreply@blogger.com
